3 Types of Hot Drinks

With fall on its way out and winter on its way that means a few things one snow is coming, B Christmas will be here in just over a month and the cold weather is about it get even colder or at least here in Canada! With the temperature dropping and the cold breeze smelling like snow that means it is time to put away the cold drinks and bring out all the hot drinks to enjoy! 

I have decided to make 3 different type of hot drinks Apple Cider, Nutella Hot Coco and Pumpkin Spice White Hot Chocolate. Let me just say YUM!!! Nutella Hot Coco

If you are a fan of Nutella then this is your drink! I found this recipe over at The Frugal Girls and it just sounded amazing so I knew I had to make it! Plus I will be honest I have only had Nutella two times so I am not on the obsessed train like a lot of people I know, but there is nothing wrong with being obsessed with Nutella!


You will need a slow cooker or crock pot whatever you wish to call it!


                                  5 cups of milk                                           1/2 cup coco powder

                                  1/2 cup Nutella                                          1/2 cup sugar

                                  1 cup hot water


In a large pan on the stove top bring coco powder, Nutella, and hot water to a low boil.


Once at a low boil at to your slow cooker along with the milk and whisk together. Turn your slow cooker to low for 4 hours or if you are unable to wait set on high but for only 2 hours.


That’s it your done! Go ahead and add some marshmallows for an extra touch and enjoy!


Apple Cider

One of my all time favourite hot drinks (besides tea and coffee) is hot apple cider! I have bought it in the past and I just never seem to like it enough or I find it WAY to sweat! I really don’t have a sweat tooth. I ended up doing some research on how to make it myself and I ended up putting together a few of them into one!


For this you will need a slow cooker or crock pot. If you don’t have a slow cooker I am 100% sure you can do this on the stove top but just make sure you will be around the full time!

For the cider you will need

                       1 orange                                                         10 apples (I mixed mine for more flavour)

                      cinnamon sticks                                           1/2 tbls ground cloves

                       sugar (not shown in picture)


Make sure you wash your apples! I know I sound like a mother but just do it! Cut the apples into quarters. Peel your orange or don’t but it will make the cider more bitter if you leave the peel on.


Add into the slow cooker along with the ground clover, cinnamon sticks and sugar. Add how much sugar you wish this will change for everyone. I added only 1/2 a cup to start. Fill up the slow cooker with water.


Make sure your slow cooker is on low and come back to it in about 7 hours. After 7ish hours  you will want to mash the apples up, I just used my potato masher. I tasted the cider at this point to see if I needed more sugar. You will want to keep it still on low and leave it for another hour. Your house is going to smell AMAZING!


This is now the part when you will have to do some work! You need to strain everything in the slow cooker to remove the apple mush, orange and cinnamon sticks. Make sure you have something like a pitcher or mason jars to add the liquid into. Remember the cider is going to be hot so be careful! You can keep the cider for a few days in the fridge and heat it up on the stove top or the microwave. Or if you ended up making a lot more than you can drink at the time you can always freeze the rest and just add to your slow cooker at a later date. I also added another cinnamon stick to my glass just to look pretty.


Pumpkin Spice White Hot Chocolate

Come on I couldn’t include some kind of pumpkins spice in here! This is fall and if you are in America you still have Thanksgiving with pumpkin everything. I love pumpkin spice everything yes I know typical! I also really love white hot chocolate so when I found this recipe over at Chocolate Chocolate and More I was very excited! Honestly I just get excited over a lot of things.


Now this one you do not need a slow cooker for! You will want to make this on the stove top or if you want it right away the microwave but I don’t like using the microwave a lot I don’t trust them.

You will need

2 cups of milk                                               1/2 cup white chocolate chips

                              1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice


Bring your milk to a low heat (you do not want to burn your milk!) on the stove top and add in your white chocolate chips until melted. Once melted add in the pumpkin spice and whisk together until you are sure everything is mixed well. I ended up also making my own whip cream to add on top and even added extra pumpkin spice onto with white chocolate chips.
